Hyperthermia + Radiotherapy

The radio-sensitizing effect of hyperthermia, in a nutshell, is based on the following phenomena:
⦁ Solid tumor cells, under hypoxia conditions, with low PH and poor metabolism, become even more sensitive in conditions of elevated temperature.
⦁ Heat = increased perfusion and oxygen supply. The more oxygen in the radiotherapy tissue, the greater the effectiveness of ionizing radiation
⦁ High temperature makes it difficult to repair DNA of cells irradiated at RT
⦁ The S and M phases of the cell cycle are particularly sensitive to heat. Cells in the G1 phase are more resistant to heat, but when they undergo it under certain conditions, cell death occurs faster than in the S and M phases.
