Interstitial hyperthermia – RF antenna system

Interstitial hyperthermia i used in oncology, most often in combination with brachytherapy. It belongs to invasive procedures because it consists in inserting into catheters (e.g. those already introduced for brachytherapy) dipole antennas heating irradiated tissues with high precision of localization and temperature measurement.

The main indications for interstitial hyperthermia are

  • Head and neck tumors, in particular those located in
    • floor of the mouth
    • the shaft of the tongue
    • cheek and lips
    • trachea
    • esophagus
  • Cervical cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Penile cancer
  • Skin cancer (basal and squamous cells)
  • Soft tissue sarcomas
  • Lung cancer
  • Pancreatic and liver cancer
