Whole-body hyperthermia is the oldest form of exogenous hyperthermia (when the temperature is raised by external factors), but its technique has strongly evolved over the years. Currently, water-filtered infrared technology is used almost exclusively, which has proven to be the most effective method of breaking the natural thermoregulation of the human body. The water filter removes from the infrared radiation the frequency bands with a wavelength greater than 1400 nm. After such filtering remains only the „near” infrared, also known as the infrared A, which is well tolerated by the skin – it penetrates deep into the well-vascularized dermis without heating the sensitive epidermis.
Whole-body hyperthermia is at the origin of thermal medicine, which in turn has a traition of over thousand years . For centuries it has been viewed primarily as a substitute of fever, the mechanisms of which little was known, except empirical conclusions that fever plays an important role in the healing process. Along with the development of modern microbiology, the complex processes that occur in the human body under conditions of elevated temperature have been learned more deeply.
Modern scientific research and clinical observations, well documented in the literature, have conclusively shown that whole-body hyperthermia has the following properties:
The above-mentioned properties make it possible to use whole-body hyperthermia as a therapy in the treatment of a wide range of diseases or conditions. The scientific and clinical evidence gathered so far confirms its effectiveness in the following applications:
